Renault: evolving a Java logistics application

My Tech Lead assignment on LI2A combines evolving a Java logistics application, agile coordination of two teams in France and India, and participation in the Oracle-to-Data-Lake migration work.

01 · Context

Understanding the business system before evolving it

LI2A is a logistics, warehousing and distribution system. My assignment focuses on evolving this existing application in a Java, Spring, Struts and Oracle environment.

On this kind of project, an enhancement involves more than adding code: it must fit the existing system and its business processes. Analysis, technical decisions and delivery therefore need to remain aligned.

02 · My contribution

From understanding the existing system to development

Analysis and design

Understand the application and its enhancement needs, then contribute to analysis and solution design.

Connect architecture and code

Contribute to architectural decisions and implement enhancements within the existing Java stack. My role remains hands-on.

Support delivery

Support the evolution of the existing system and continuous integration and delivery practices, using Maven and GitLab CI/CD.

03 · Leadership & agility

Two teams, two ways of organising work

I coordinate two teams in an international setting. The team in India works in sprints; the team in France uses Kanban. My role therefore combines technical contribution with agile team leadership.

04 · Data evolution

Contributing to the Oracle-to-Data-Lake migration

I take part in the Data Lake team’s weekly ceremonies, organised in sprints, as part of the migration from Oracle to BigQuery.

I contribute to writing application interface contracts (CLA) in Confluence. These documents detail the tables in scope, their structure, the fields to migrate, and loading schedules and frequencies: hourly, daily or weekly.

The CLA documents provide the Data Lake team with a reference for loading BigQuery’s RAW layer. The data is then prepared for the Gold layer according to business needs.
