Java application modernisation and rebuilds

Is your application ageing, becoming difficult to change or no longer meeting business needs? I help analyse the existing system and define a suitable path: targeted improvements, progressive modernisation or a rebuild.

Choose a path

Evolve the existing system or rebuild?

The decision depends on the code’s condition, requirements to preserve or revise, integrations, data, budget and continuity constraints. We assess these points before defining the modernisation scope.

Targeted or progressive evolution

Keep the system and work within a defined scope: components, features or delivery practices. This approach is considered when the existing system remains usable and changes can be broken down.

Rebuild on new foundations

Revisit requirements and architecture, then rebuild the application. This option requires planning how to carry over business uses, exchanges with other systems and the transition of data and users.

From assessment to implementation

A project scoped with your team

01 · Understand the existing system

Review code and documentation, clarify business processes, dependencies and challenges. Deliverable to agree: a focused assessment and prioritised recommendations.

02 · Define the target

Specify functional and technical requirements, work with your architects on the target and break the work into stages. Possible deliverables: specifications, architectural decisions and an implementation plan.

03 · Develop and prepare the transition

Implement changes, prepare tests and regression checks, document changes and organise delivery stages. Depending on scope, also plan data migration and rollback scenarios.

What is the next step for your application?

Describe your application, its technologies, current challenges and desired changes. We can then define the scope of an initial assignment and the elements to assess.
